FAST Ways To Prepare YOUR Home for Thanksgiving Guests

Thanksgiving is the kick-off to the holiday season and while the holiday's are an excellent time to enjoy family - it's also a season when your house can get the messiest. With all of the cooking, baking and celebrating that will happen through the next few weeks, your home will probably feel like it's in a frantic state of disrepair, and your kitchen may never feel like it's seen the light of day under all of those cooking utensils. Thankfully, with just a few minutes a day, you can help keep those dust bunnies at bay.

Here are a few tips and tricks that you can utilize while running through your Lake of the Ozarks home, just minutes before the guests arrive.

Clean the Bathroom

If you can only clean ONE room, make it this room! Your guests will generally tolerate a little dust in the living room or flat pillows on the couch - but there is nothing that will gross them out more than a dirty bathroom. Take 5 minutes and wipe down the sink and toilet, clean the mirrors and put out new toilet paper. Don't forget to empty the trash and close the shower curtain, too!

Vacuum and Sweep the Floors

Only bother with the areas where your company will be gathering. Grab the vacuum and the broom and run over the surfaces quickly. Don't forget to spot mop any areas, specifically the kitchen, to make it look a little cleaner.

Empty the Sink, Load the Dishwasher and Wipe the Countertops

No matter how clean your kitchen is, if there are dishes in the sink, it automatically looks messy. By emptying out the clean dishes in the dishwasher and reloading it with the dirty dishes, you will make a HUGE impact on your kitchen. Now that the sink is clean, take a rag and wipe the counters, sink, and stove. Start up the dishwasher while your guests are starting to come, and this will help your cleaning endeavors after they leave.

Straighten and Dust "Visible" Areas

Don't worry about cleaning the top of the door trim or those really tall bookcases, only run a cloth over the areas that are visible. Make sure you stop by the entertainment center and put away the DVD cases and straighten up the remotes. Just remember, what they can't see won't hurt them.

Turn Down the Lights

You can say you're setting the "mood", by turning off the overhead lights, turning on the lamps and lighting the candles, but you're REALLY hiding the areas that you didn't get a chance to clean! If the lights are down, no one will be able to tell that you didn't dust the bookshelf.

Clear a Place for Coats and Bags

Preparing for the coats and bags in advance will help you out when the guests start arriving. Whether you have a coat closet that you'll be hanging everything in, or an entryway bench or bed, prepare and clean it in advance. Don't forget to return the coats before people leave!

Set the Mood with Music

Now that you've run through the house frantically cleaning and touching up, turn up those tunes. Sit back for a few minutes, enjoy your handiwork, calm your nerves, and be ready to greet your guests with holiday cheer.
